Pilates
Pilates is a complete mind-body exercise which focuses on strengthening the body and correcting movement dysfunction. It concentrates on coordination, posture and breathing whilst developing core strength and muscle length, flexibility and control. There are many reasons to choose to practice Pilates:
Strengthens joints
Increases flexibility
Improves posture
Improves balance
Improves sense of wellbeing through connection to breath
Clinically proven to help back pain (Cruz-Diaz et al 2018, Hides et al 2001)
Assist post-operative rehabilitation
Can enhance sport-specific performance
Reduce injury risk
Matwork Pilates
This involves exercising on a mat utilising gravity as resistance against bodyweight. Exercises can be adapted to suit individual abilities and fitness levels. Using small equipment and modifications, each class is always different and is catered to the needs of the clients. Pilates on the mat is a great way to consolidate the basic principles and develop an awareness of your body, posture and movement.
Reformer Pilates
The Reformer is a frame with a sliding carriage with springs underneath. The spring tension forms the resistance or assistance, depending on the aim of the specific exercise. The equipment was originally designed to variously assist and challenge the body to enable better performance on the mat. The Reformer can allow for a more dynamic workout, challenging coordination, core strength, muscle control and spinal flexibility.
Rosie offers private tuition where sessions are tailored specifically to your goals. As the reformer enables specific muscles to be worked in relative isolation, it can be useful for physiotherapy clients rehabilitating from specific injuries.
Rosie’s Approach
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates who, in the early 20th Century, devised a series of exercises which he found produced astonishing health benefits. These exercises were based on the idea that injuries are caused by muscle imbalances within the body.
Rosie completed her training with The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) who modified these traditional Pilates exercises, creating a graduated system of specific exercise rehabilitation that is appropriate for clients of all levels.
Rosie’s classes feature movement through a variety of different levels and are suitable for all stages of fitness. Numbers are limited for group classes, ensuring attention is given to each individual. Rosie can develop population specific classes on request: such as low-back pain, pregnancy, post-natal, office-workers, as well as sport-specific classes for runners, horse riders, cyclists.
Pilates is for everyone
Pilates has something to offer everyone. Rosie welcomes clients as they are, no matter what their level or goals may be.
Rosie is currently offering group and private tuition, both on the mat and on the reformer. Specific group classes can be arranged on request.
I worked with Rosie over a period of 6 months during her time in Ankara, having one to one lessons, using the reformer. I had minimal previous experience of reformer pilates and learnt so much from my one to one sessions. Rosie's experience as a qualified physiotherapist ensured she taught me the correct positioning whilst performing the exercises, getting the best out of each session. Rosie is an excellent instructor and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her classes. I always left feeling lighter, more relaxed and smiling.
